Travel with other young adults, learn outdoor skills and spend time with Fijian hosts and guides. This expedition combines ocean activities, community learning and the shared responsibilities of travelling as a group.

Who is this trip for?
Gen Z Fiji is for young adults interested in outdoor adventure, learning from local communities and contributing to group life. You might be taking a gap year, considering your next step or looking for a supported travel experience.
Learn with your hosts
Share meals, join community projects and learn about food, gardens and coastal environments from Fijian guides. Listen to local perspectives and follow your hosts’ guidance when visiting their communities.
Practise outdoor and group skills
Paddling, camping, ocean activities and daily decisions provide opportunities to build skills through practice. The group shares responsibilities and makes time to reflect on each experience.
Discuss the support you need
Neurodivergent and neurotypical young adults are welcome. We talk with each participant about their interests, communication preferences and support needs before booking. That conversation helps establish what the course can provide and whether it suits you.

– Pre-course check-in (Zoom conference with attendees)
– Direct contact with our Duke of Edinburgh Award Centre
– 24/7 instruction & support by Fireside instructors/mentors
– Most meals
– All accommodation (dorm, glamping, tenting, homestay)

– Group camping equipment
– Admission into all activities based on the itinerary
6 day (5 nights) community immersion experience (homestay, language and cooking lessons, volunteer project, Fijian cultural experience, glamping and more) at Nanumi Au.
– 3-day Scuba Diving Certification (70% of the cost). Separate fees paid by participant.
– 7-day (6 nights) remote and private island camping expedition, including an Indiana Jones version of finding the ruins of a 1500-year-old village buried in the jungle
– 2 full days of snorkelling within the 3rd biggest reef in the world during the expedition
– 1 day of spearfishing and deep sea fishing during the expedition
– 3 days of paddleboarding and coastline adventure during the expedition
Does not include:
– Flights to and from Vancouver
– Anything not mentioned above.

Adventure highlights
The 21-day program brings together several kinds of learning and adventure. These highlights describe the experience; they are not a day-by-day itinerary. The 2027 sequence is being finalised.
Community learning: share meals, practise language, learn cooking skills and participate in locally guided projects.
Outdoor living: practise camp routines, meal preparation and group leadership during the remote beach expedition.
Paddling and coastline exploration: develop paddleboarding skills and explore with the guides.
Reef learning: snorkel and discuss marine environments and reef protection with local guides.
Fishing skills: learn about spearfishing and fishing practices from local instructors.
Scuba learning: the advertised course includes an open-water scuba component; confirm the current arrangements and additional participant fees with us.
Shared leadership: contribute to plans, take responsibility for group tasks and reflect on what you learn.

Why Fiji?
Fiji’s coastal environments and communities give the course a practical setting for learning about food, marine life and environmental change. Local guides connect those subjects to the places they know.
Time spent travelling, cooking and learning together also gives young adults opportunities to practise communication, planning and teamwork.
Learning beyond the trip
We encourage participants to reflect on what they have tried and how those skills might support their next steps at home, in study or at work.
The UN Sustainable Development Goals provide a reference for conversations about sustainability and community wellbeing.
What does Plus mean?
Gen Z Plus adds support for preparation, participation and reflection to the travel experience. Before booking, we discuss your goals, interests and support needs to decide together whether the course fits.
“Re-authoring through adventure” describes reflecting on the stories we tell about ourselves and considering new possibilities through experience. Learning a skill, contributing to a group or working through a challenge may give you something concrete to reflect on.
