What truly defines Fiji?

Fiji is world-renowned for its philosophy of honouring happiness, living with contentment, and embracing one another as friends. In a world that often feels rushed and disconnected, Fiji invites you to slow down, set aside your phone, and immerse yourself in the vibrant, welcoming spirit of everyday island life. Here, warmth is not just in the climate, it shines through the smiles, generosity, and laughter of the Fijian people.

The Suncoast region of Fiji is a must-see destination. Nestled along Viti Levu’s northern coast, it’s a place where coral reefs meet fertile valleys and traditional villages flourish beside the ocean. This region is known for its authentic cultural experiences, strong community ties, and inspiring local initiatives in sustainability and climate resilience. From reef restoration projects to regenerative farming practices, the Suncoast offers powerful examples of how communities are leading the way in conservation and adaptation.

Thanks to our incredible local partners, participants in World Bound: Fiji have the chance to roll up their sleeves and take part in hands-on community projects, gaining a real-world education in sustainability and climate action. Whether it’s paddling through mangrove forests, preparing a traditional lovo meal, learning directly from Indigenous knowledge keepers, or engaging in meaningful conversations with local leaders, every moment is designed to foster connection, purpose, and understanding.

This journey is not just about visiting Fiji, it’s about becoming part of it. Here, you will discover the power of community, the importance of living in balance with the land and sea, and perhaps, discover a deeper sense of yourself.

Are you ready to experience Fiji—and be transformed by it?

Meet your Fiji adventure family

Jen and Koli Samuta

Your community, host and Fiji Base Camp: Jen and Koli Samuta, co-founders of Nanumi Au

Nanumi Au is an Eco Village located in Navutulevu, on the land of our Mataqali Natiliva community. We focus on building community and regenerating the land. We understand many want true adventure (outside of typical tourism, resorts and hotels) and to meet the locals so we work closely with our village and local businesses to create a unique, fun, authentic and eco-aware experience.

Being village-led and run, showcasing our way of living (in an organic way, not touristic or commercialized), building relationships, and exchanging ideas and experiences will result in pride and retention of our people and culture in the village. Hosting visitors like Gen Z Travels is a way of keeping our young people in the village and not losing them to employment that can otherwise only be found in the towns and cities.

True immersion in Fijian village life gives + returns perspective about the most simple, yet important things in life: community and nature.

Your ocean explorer and stewardship team: Suncoast Adventures

At Suncoast Adventures, everything revolves around the ocean. With over 30 years of experience exploring Fiji’s Rakiraki region “from ridge to reef,” our team is passionate about sharing the sea in ways that are both adventurous and sustainable. From spear fishing, paddle boarding, and fishing to snorkelling, dolphin watching, and remote island explorations, we specialize in unforgettable ocean-based experiences. Many of our journeys take place within one of Fiji’s few Marine and Island Protected Parks, ensuring both conservation and education are at the heart of every adventure.

One of our most popular experiences, the Catch and Cook adventure, invites participants to learn the traditional ways of our ancestors—harvesting from the ocean and preparing a shared feast. It’s a celebration of teamwork, sustainability, and the family spirit that defines Fijian life. We are proud and excited to officially partner with Fireside Adventures to co-lead expedition and adventure experiences. Together, we are inspiring the next generation to step outside the digital world, reconnect with their “inner wild child,” and build real-life skills rooted in community, culture, and nature.

In Fiji, family is the cornerstone of society, weaving unity and support into everyday life. At sea, as in life, challenges are part of the journey—“Na Wasawasa Maravu e Sega ni Bulia na Kaiwai” … A Smooth Sea Never Made a Skilled Sailor.

Our World Bound Climate Change Curriculum

World Bound: Fiji is about more than just travel; it’s about weaving together Fijian and South Pacific perspectives on leadership, culture, outdoor adventure, and climate change education to prepare youth for purposeful action in a rapidly changing world.

No, we won’t overwhelm participants with endless doom-and-gloom stories about a climate apocalypse. No, we won’t offer fluffy affirmations or false hope. And no, we won’t drown them in distant international policy discussions that feel irrelevant.

Instead, we will give young people what they truly want and need: hands-on skills, community connection, and leadership training that empower them to become real climate leaders. Guided by outdoor educators, Indigenous knowledge keepers, and sustainability practitioners, youth will experience the world’s most pressing issues through the eyes, land, and culture of Fijians themselves.

At the heart of this program is the World Bound Curriculum: a set of place-based, outdoor-oriented learning modules shaped by the communities and landscapes of Fiji. Rooted in experiential education and framed by our five World Bound Pillars, the curriculum turns adventure into a pathway for resilience, responsibility, and global citizenship.. For more detailed information about the curriculum, please visit our World Bound Curriculum page.

Fijian highlands

Pillar 1: Integrating Climate Change Principles and Perspectives (South Pacific)

  • Indigenous and Local Knowledge: Learn directly from our Fijian partners such as Talanoa Treks, Barefoot Scuba, Nanumi Au, Pacific Ark, and Suncoast Adventures. These authentic community-led experiences immerse participants in how Fijians live, adapt, and thrive in the face of environmental change.

  • Intercultural Understanding: Fiji is part of a deeply interconnected South Pacific, one of the regions most affected by climate change. Here, culture isn’t just identity. It shapes how communities respond to rising seas, extreme weather, and conservation challenges.

  • Conservation in Action: Work alongside conservationists and educators to see why protecting coral reefs, mangroves, forests, and oceans are some of the most powerful “tools” in the climate leadership toolbox.

Pillar 2: Exploring Real-world Environments

  • Highlands: Trek through Fiji’s mountainous forests, learning how invasive species and human land use have reshaped these fragile ecosystems.

  • Oceans: Discover the South Pacific’s extraordinary biodiversity, from coastal fisheries to the legendary Great Astrolabe Reef, one of the largest barrier reefs in the world.

  • Islands: Each of Fiji’s 333 islands tells its own story through its ecosystems, cultural traditions, and community resilience strategies.

Paddleboarding in mangroves

Pillar 3: Giving and Connecting within Communities

  • Live and learn through multi-day village homestays, where traditions, language, and cultural practices are shared generously by Fijian hosts.

  • Participate in community-based conservation projects, from mangrove replanting to reef restoration and regenerative agriculture.

  • Build global friendships by connecting with Fijian youth and international peers in meaningful cultural exchange.

Pillar 4: Strengthening Life, Social, and Leadership Skills

  • Outdoor skills: navigation, camping, snorkeling, scuba diving, and wilderness risk management.

  • Practical sustainability: cooking, farming, and eco-friendly living practices.

  • Language and culture: basic Fijian vocabulary, storytelling, and traditional crafting.

  • Leadership: collaboration, communication, and self-reliance through team challenges and solo reflection.

Pillar 5: Sustaining Climate Action through Solution-focused Approaches

  • Translate lessons into personal goal-setting and life planning for long-term impact.

  • Network with local activists, entrepreneurs, and sustainability leaders building resilient communities.

  • Join the World Bound Climate Ambassador Network and Vancouver Outdoor School Youth Network for ongoing mentorship, action, and opportunities.

  • Explore pathways for future internships and leadership roles in sustainability-focused businesses and expeditions.
