ARTEMIS BC (TEENS)
OCEAN • COURAGE • SISTERHOOD • DISCOVERY
The Sunshine Coast has long been a gathering place for stories shaped by tides, mountains, and resilient coastal communities. Now it becomes the training ground for the next generation of young women leaders.
BC Artemis Explorer brings together ocean exploration, outdoor skills, and an introduction to female youth leadership development in a uniquely supportive, inclusive, and inspiring environment.
If you’re craving adventure, connection, and the chance to learn outdoor skills with a team of like-minded young women—this is your launch point. Bring an open mind and a sense of curiosity—Artemis takes care of the rest.
WHY THE SUNSHINE COAST?
The Sechelt Inlet is one of British Columbia’s coastal gems. Calm waters, sheltered coves, towering cedars, and wide-open skies make it the perfect place for youth to discover the outdoors in a safe, empowering way.
This region—known to the Shíshálh Nation as ch’atlich—is rich with culture, ecological diversity, and opportunities for young leaders to step into their strengths.
Whether this is your first overnight expedition or a return to the world of youth camps. Artemis is for you.

BC Artemis Explorer is grounded in four pillars:
OCEAN • COURAGE • SISTERHOOD • DISCOVERY
Together, these pillars create a welcoming and intentional space where young women can:
Build confidence through outdoor and ocean-based experiences
Step into leadership with guidance and mentorship
Learn backcountry and paddling skills at their own pace
Connect deeply with peers in a supportive, inclusive environment
Explore their identity and personal strengths
Discover the beauty and power of the coastal landscape
This is not about being the strongest or the fastest.
It is about showing up with openness, curiosity, and courage.
No experience is required.
DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S AWARD
This program is also connected to the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award of Canada, offering meaningful opportunities for skill development, service, physical activity, and adventurous journeys (participation in DofE is welcomed but not required).
BC Artemis Explorer creates space for young women to:
Practice leadership in real, outdoor environments
Explore what strengths they bring to a group while developing their ocean canoeing skills.
Grow their confidence in the backcountry and paddling
Experience the joy and grounding of time on the ocean
Every participant brings a story. This is your chance to shape the next chapter.
MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Arianne Gionet, Instructor and Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Coordinator
I started my journey with Fireside in 2018 and have since done all sorts of interesting things, from canoeing in BC to hiking in the Dolomites. Over the years, Fireside has given me the chance to step outside my comfort zone through experiences like ridge hiking and canyoning. These experiences have shaped how I think, lead, and connect with the world.
I’m passionate about education and how we can learn while out in nature, trying new things and growing alongside others. I’m excited to help create the same kind of meaningful, adventurous experiences that shaped me, and to be part of a community that values curiosity, connection and the outdoors.
