Womens Adventure Wednesday Details

Activity Pass Rate: $300 plus 5% tax for all 7 WAW activities.
Each individual WAW can be purchased starting February 1, 2019 at an adjusted rate.

Important information: Sea to Sky WAW will be based in the Squamish and Whistler area as a pilot group but it is open to everyone. In early May of 2019, Women’s Adventure Mondays will expand the reach to include more communities such as Surrey and Vancouver.  

Use these Wednesday nights to connect with each other as we start this new year. Then experience the Gourmet Cooking and Wellness Retreat (February 1-3, 2019) and Sunshine Coast Outdoor Skills Retreat (May 3-5, 2019) during this spring.

Commencing January, 2019 Artemis Women’s Adventure Wednesdays (WAW) will make your new year rock! WAW will offer different opportunities and experiences on Wednesday evenings for you to enjoy. Each activity is scheduled for 3 hours but you can choose how much time and space to create for yourself. With so much to offer, there is something for everyone and with so many dates, there is an adventure that fits into everyone’s schedule.

Each Wednesday that you join, you will get to add another ‘Chapter’ to your personal story. We will face new challenges, push our comfort zones, try something new and encourage meaningful discussion around the experience. Not every experience is physically demanding; Wednesday’s are designed to allow balance in all aspects of life. No experience is necessary in any of the activities; they are designed as opportunities to dip your toes in a new experience. Optional reading will be offered as well to further roundfire conversation topics featured each week. Roundfire discussion will range from guest speakers sharing their story to readings to meaningful conversations.

Purchase an Activity Pass to enjoy WAW with a group of like-minded women from all demographics. The pass will be for 7 activities total with an outstanding price for all of the events. If only some are convenient, you can purchase individual passes at an adjusted rate. After participating in a WAW night, many of the local businesses have offered special prices for memberships and extended trials. Not only will you get an incredible first hand experience, there is incentive to return and continue your practice of choice. Furthermore, receive a discount for a weekend event of your choice when you purchase an activity pass!

Chapter 1: WAW Artemis Shoots Her Arrows

When: January 23rd, 2019.

Where: Squamish Valley Rod and Gun Club.

What: Introduction to archery.

Why: Welcome to Artemis Women’s Adventure, program introduction, meet and greet with the new Artemis community and enjoy a night.

Join us for the first WAW of 2019 as we partake in an archery night at the Squamish Gun Club. Experience the power behind a bow and arrow, the symbol of the Greek Goddess Artemis. As the goddess of hunting, wild animals and wilderness, Artemis exudes confidence and leadership as a woman. We will follow suit as we begin to develop our skills and relationships in the WAW community.

Chapter 2: WAW Find your Flow

When: January 30, 2019

Where: Fung Loy Kok Institute of Taoism- Vancouver, BC

What: Join in a 2 hour Tai Chi class to get the basic understanding and principles of Taoist Tai Chi®️ arts. After the class we will delve into the traditional Chinese religions and how the practices can benefit your everyday life.

Why: Explore stillness and flexibility through a quiet, calm mind space while gaining a deeper understanding of why our spiritual exploration is so important.

As a moving meditation, Taoist Tai Chi® arts generate a stillness of the mind and a calmness of the body. After 2 hours of Tai Chi taught by one of the accredited instructors, we will have an opportunity to look at the 3 traditional religions of China: Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism and their rituals and practices. Roundfire discussion will explore how these ancient arts can enhance our balance and spirituality.

Please be prepared to carpool for this event if coming from Squamish and wear flat shoes and comfortable clothing.

Chapter 3: WAW How High Can you Fly?

Where: Core Intentions Squamish, BC

What: Specially designed intro to pilates and aerials and how to incorporate healthy core.

Why: Feel your core engage in exercises to benefit your everyday life. Decompress while hanging upside down and get a special sneak-peek at two growing activities while connecting with the WAW community. Keep soaring to new heights with a special membership offer from Core Intentions.

Fly to new heights during this activity! Experience soaring through the air and total body engagement at Core Intentions. We will have a special workshop, getting to experience both pilates and aerials classes. The workshop is designed to bring awareness of everyday movements/motions and how to incorporate healthy habits into your life. While soaring to new heights on a physical level, we will keep expanding on a mental level. Roundfire discussion will be around ambitions, goals, and happiness.

Where: Brennan Park Community Centre, Squamish, BC

What: Gourmet cooking class with one of Squamish's’ best chefs: Diana Johnstone

Why: Give your taste buds some delightful flavours while improving your cooking skills. Learn how to prepare a simple, nutritious, vegetarian meal with ingredients you can easily use again. Share some of your favourite recipes with the WAW community.

Be delighted with the bubbly personality of Chef Diana Johnstone while she presents us with a hands-on gourmet cooking lesson.The focus will be on creating a healthy, nutritious meal that can be easily re-created. After making a tasty treat for dessert, Diana will facilitate a discussion around nutrition and health through diet. Roundfire discussion will be centered about health and habits. *Please inform of any food allergies or restrictions*

Where: Breathe, Squamish, BC

What: Special private workshop designed in the infrared heat incorporating yoga, core strengthening and breathing

Why: Use the heat to release toxins and blockages, engage in a full body experience, learn new fitness skills and breathing techniques to be used at home. Keep returning to your mat after this workshop with a special membership being offered from Breathe!

Join us for a hot night in the studio at Breathe, located in downtown Squamish. This specially designed Forest yoga workshop will be about opening your centers, releasing your inner blockages, and providing basic techniques to use at home during stressful situations. Explore your inner body while being surrounded and supported by the WAW community. For those experienced with yoga or fitness classes, look at as a chance to practice and to teach others more about your skills. We will be joined by special guest Ann Marie Mackenzie, who facilitates discussion around Emotional Intelligence and Authentic Leadership. This will be a powerful workshop in order to add benefit to your communication and conflict resolution skills. Roundfire discussion will focus on communication; it’s advantages and disadvantages in the modern times..

Where: Flow Training Centre, Squamish, BC

What: Special private class designed to heighten your self-defense and personal awareness skills

Why: Further increase your sense of personal security, experience a new or unfamiliar form of martial arts, get some high quality exercise, and enjoy a night with the WAW community. Stay involved with Flow after the workshop as they are offering an amazing membership opportunity!

Come to experience an intense, WAW exclusive workshop designed to provide you with strength and security! It will cover basic self-defense moves as well as provide some tips and tricks to increase your ninja stealth. For those experienced with martial arts, view it as a chance to practice and to help others. After a two hour hands-on lesson, we will be encouraged to consider the space around us and how we may or may not have an influence on it. Roundfire discussion will delve into comfort zones and challenges.

Where: TBD, Squamish, BC

What: Special Bushcraft lesson hosted by Andrew Crawford White. Develop knowledge about picking wild salads as well a brief intro to bushcraft.

Why: Develop outdoor skills that increase survival, get outside in the spring weather, start to generate ideas for the Sunshine Coast Outdoor Skills Retreat.

Escape to the outdoors and practice with Backwoods Bushcraft. It will be an activity involving foraging for a fresh salad, picking some nice spring edibles and practicing some bushcraft skills. Bushcraft is about thriving in the natural world and developing the skills to do so; it focuses on how to adapt and improvise in a outdoor setting. This is a great opportunity to get out in the woods before the weekend retreat! Come and experience bushcraft to take your outdoor skills to the next level. For those experienced with foraging, please join us to share your knowledge and stories. Roundfire discussion will look at our relationships to fear and apprehension.

Chapter 8: WAW Pour it Out

Where: Squamish Bed & Breakfast, Squamish, BC

What: Expressive creation night: Bring your favourite food dish in for a potlatch and create your own unique painting

Why: Allow your creative juices to flow, put some colour in your life and express yourself through painting. Create time and space to spend with women close to you. Enjoy a variety of delicious, fresh foods and tasty treats!

Time: 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm

Fee: $40 per person including all supplies

This activity will allow the time and space for you to create and express your inner feminine side. Feel the colours flow onto the canvas as you design your artwork through the night. This is a special offer for a Mother-Daughter event as all are welcome to join. We will be hosted in a comfortable space with access to a kitchen; please bring your favourite dish or baked goods that you make at home! Roundfire discussion will be participant led and will be sure to include the youth in the conversation.


Chapter 9: WAW Wine a Bit

When: April 24, 2019

Where: Wine a Bit and Gillespies Distillery, Squamish, BC

What: Introduction to winemaking with the option to start the process of making your own 30 bottles of wine. Followed by a tour, tasting and cocktail class at Gillespies Gin Distillery

Why: Experience the process of making your own wine, learn about different wine types, tour a gin distillery and learn to make some unique cocktails

Time: 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm

Fee: $10 wine introduction fee with the option to add 30 bottles of wine. Prices range from $130-195, depending on your wine of choice (bottles not included). $25 fee for tour, tasting and cocktail class at Gillespies Gin Distillery.

Start the evening out with an introduction to different styles and tastes of both red and white wine. You will have the option to begin making your chosen flavour of wine; learn the process all the way from juice to the bottle! It is a delicate process taking a total of 6 weeks so this is the first step. Have the chance to check-in on the wine during this time and then get together 6 weeks later to bottle 30 bottles of your hand-crafted wine. It is a super cost effective and fun way to ‘wine a bit’! We will then head over to Gillespies Gin Distillery for another tour, tasting and a cocktail class. Using the gin distilled there, we will learn how to make unique, tasty cocktails for at home. Join the WAW community for a night out on the town!

Chapter 10: WAW Downhill Adrenaline

When: Saturday, May 25, 2019

Where: Ride Hub, Squamish, BC

What: 2 hour introduction session to mountain biking including body movements, necessary techniques and easy tips to get you trail ready, followed by a facilitated 2 hour ride on local trails. No previous mountain biking experience is needed.

Why: Feel the rush of riding downhill, learn proper techniques for mountain biking, move your body in a way that supports your riding, experience some of the local trails Squamish has to offer

Time: 8:00 am to 12:00 pm

Fee: $75 per person plus an additional $60 if requiring a bike rental (maximum 11 participants)

Ever wanted to experience the thrill of rushing downhill, flying past trees and soaring down a dirt path? Join this Saturday morning workshop offered by RideHub where we will work with experienced female coaches. They will explain the techniques and movements required to safely mountain bike as well as tips and tricks to get you trail ready. This special workshop will have you feeling confident and ready to roll out on a mountain bike to explore the vast trail systems.
