Camp Details

Date: July 3 to July 23, 2018
Ages: 13 to 17 (Co-ed)
Price: Early Bird (until December 31, 2017) - $3,349.00 CDN plus 5% tax. Regular - $3,599.00 CDN plus 5% tax. Includes instruction, food, accommodation, most camping gear, camping fees and transportation while on trip. Does not include flight and some optional activities.
Locations: Whistler, Vancouver, Squamish, Sunshine Coast, Sechelt Inlet, and Halkett Bay Provincial Park
Core Recreational and Educational Elements: language and cultural immersion, alpine hiking, ocean canoeing, white water rafting, connections with Indigenous culture, backpacking, focus on life and social competencies and outdoor leadership skills training.

  • Paddle along the majestic coastlines of Howe Sound and Sechelt Inlet
  • Sleep under the stars in some of BC's best Provincial Parks and enjoy some peaceful rest in your tent
  • Experience the beauty of Whistler Village, the beaches of Vancouver, white water rafting in Squamish and the incredible sunsets of British Columbia
  • Learn the basics of front and back-country camping, ocean canoeing and orienteering, alpine hiking, and more!
  • Be supported by experienced and skilled instructors who will provide supervision for 24 hours a day for the entirety of the program
  • Participate in leadership and canoe certification
  • Learn about leadership styles and competencies of leaders
  • Partake in language and cultural exchange experiences with other youth
  • Participate in a half day community project

July 3, 2018- Vancouver, Camp Capilano

  • Arrivals (please connect with us directly to make alternative arrival times)
  • 9am to 2pm – Vancouver International Airport
  • Depart for Camp Capilano
  • Equipment and bag check
  • Welcome ceremony and dinner
  • Leadership Discussion Question: What is leadership? Who are your leaders? What are the characteristics of a leader? Why is leadership important to self and others? Review of leadership bracelet process (evening)
  • Evening night hike with instructors within Lynn Canyon Park
  • Snacks available for late international arrivals

July 4, 2018 – Vancouver, Camp Capilano

  • Morning stretch and morning hike (breakfast in the forest)
  • Overview of 21-day leadership expedition
  • Overview of program goals and objectives, review safety and emergency procedures and full value agreement
  • Tour of English Bay, Stanley Park and downtown Vancouver
  • Evening sessions:  Animal Aware: What to do when you see an animal such as bears, cougars and raccoons, and review meal preparations & cooking 101 activity (learning to cook with camp stove and over a fire)
  • Purchase items youth may have missed
  • Sunset ceremony

July 5, 2018 – Vancouver, Camp Capilano and Sechelt Inlet, Porpoise Bay Provincial Park

  • Early morning wake up
  • Pack up personal and group gear and food for Sechelt Inlet Expedition
  • Afternoon departure from Horseshoe Bay to the Sunshine Coast and head to Sechelt
  • Last minute purchases before expedition
  • Set up camp at Porpoise Bay Provincial Park
  • Evening ocean canoe practice

July 06 – 11, 2018 – Sechelt Inlet

  • Commencement of Sechelt Inlet ocean canoeing expedition, visiting some incredible locations and camping by the sea shore and under the stars
  • Trip preparation (how to keep yourself warm, cool, dry and your gear waterproof)
  • Trip preparation basics (packing bags, rolling sleeping bags, how to travel lightly, group gear, food preparation)
  • Review canoe equipment
  • Focus on ocean canoe paddle and outdoor skills
  • Return on the 11th to Porpoise Bay for showers, buffet dinner and laundry

July 12 – 19, 2018 – Gambier Island, Howe Sound

  • 6-day circumnavigation of Gambier Island with a chance to see orca whales and witness one of BC’s most treasured natural areas – Howe Sound
  • Set up camp around remote locations on Gambier Island
  • Practice canoeing and review safety
  • Review navigation charts and ropes, orienteering and water purification lessons
  • Discussion: 5 pillars and 5 values of leadership
  • Solo experience at Halkett Bay
  • Community service project

July 19, 2018 – Whistler, Fireside Lodge

  • Full-day white water rafting in Squamish
  • Exploring township of Squamish (approximately 45 minutes from Whistler)
  • Settle into Fireside Lodge
  • Relax, sauna and movie night

July 20, 2018- Whistler, Fireside Lodge

  • Full day exploring Whistler
  • Participants will have the opportunity to purchase (with their own money) a number of specialize Whistler activities
  • Pizza Night

July 21, 2018 - Whistler, Fireside Lodge

  • Up early
  • Hike Rainbow Lake trail
  • Swim at Alta Lake
  • Evening in Whistler Village

July 22, 2018 - Whistler, Fireside Lodge

  • Up early and all participants will partake in a mini marathon challenge
  • Group debrief
  • Video journal closing remarks
  • Graduation BBQ dinner

July 23, 2018

  • Up early and depart for home
  • Touring Vancouver before scheduled return flights
